Fall 2012

Luck Alumni Scholarship Foundation News; $1,500 DISTRIBUTED

Dear Luck High School Alumnus,

It was a proud moment during the Senior Awards Night in May, when we awarded our first scholarships with the monies that you donated to our scholarship fund.  Three deserving Luck seniors each received  $500 in scholarship.  Class of 2012 students, Summer Johnson, Shardae Garcia and Brett Bartylla, will receive their scholarship money upon completion of their first semester of study.  For a grass roots effort, $1,500 in scholarships is a significant accomplishment, and hopefully just the beginning.

Our first year of fundraising went well, we learn as we go, and we sincerely hope that you will continue to support our scholarship foundation with a gift this year.  Although we are not collecting ‘dues’ to be part    of this organization, we certainly do hope that you will continue to support the Luck Alumni Scholarship Foundation with an annual donation.  Just a reminder, your donation is tax deductible as we have achieved, and maintained, our 501c(3) tax status (Tax ID # 76-080032).

The task of keeping in touch with alumni is a monumental task, and for our first mailing, we had to use the address lists supplied by the staff at Luck Schools, along with updates from students who live in the area.    As you can imagine, these lists were in need of editing, especially for some of the earlier classes.  We really need help from those of you organizing your reunions.  Please email, USPS mail or drop off your contact lists for your class to help us update the master data of Luck alumni.  Using an updated list will cut down the costs of our mailings, which makes this scholarship fund even more effective.

We are also beginning to use social media to connect with alumni.  You can find us on Facebook as group Luck Alumni Scholarship Foundation Association.  Additionally, if you have questions or comments, feel  free to contact us using our email address LuckAlumniAssociation@gmail.com. Info is also available on the Luck Public School website under the Community page (http://www.lucksd.k12.wi.us/comm/alumni.cfm).

Now that we have set a high standard of distributing three scholarships per year, we ask that you support the Luck Alumni Scholarship Foundation with a donation today.

Yes, we still have hopes of expanding our activities for fund raising and we need your help to make that happen.  An opportunity to share in the proceeds from the In and Out of Luck Run this year will help us continue to raise scholarship funds.  Watch for this event as part of Lucky Days advertised on the Luck webpage, http://www.luckwisconsin.com/.  If you have other ideas for how you might help make an event happen, please let us know so we can support any / all efforts.

We are also planning to recognize gifts given in Memorial, again, any ideas that you have, we would like   to hear.  Would a listing on the webpage be appreciated by those donors? Or should we have a dedication plaque in one of the display cases at the school?  Feel free to offer up any ideas that you may have, as several gifts have already been made in the name of a loved one.

As of today, the Luck Alumni Scholarship Foundation Association made a difference in the future of three of our Luck graduates. It would be grand to be able to say that we have recognized six or more graduates in the 2013 newsletter. With over 2,000 LHS graduates so far, we have power as a group to each give a little and together we can make a big impact on the academic futures of our students.

Please take the time to consider any monetary donation carefully.  Checks can be made payable to the Luck Alumni Scholarship Foundation.

Our success as a Scholarship Foundation depends on alumni donors like you.

If you have already donated this year, we thank you for your generous gift, tax receipts will be distributed for all 2012 gifts in January of 2013.

We also appreciate the many cards and letters that we received from alumni after our last mailing.  It inspires us to continue to work hard on this project knowing so many of you are behind the idea of supporting our students in their academic pursuits.

Sincerely,

Kyle Johansen
