School District of Luck Residents,
 

Many would believe that summer is a quiet time around a school building. However, that could not be further from the truth the last few years at the School District of Luck! Summer is a time to finish projects, review policies and procedures, and prepare for the upcoming school year.

The district is in the process of finishing some of the last projects from the building referendum. The shop areas have been cleaned and painted, and received some other improvements as well. The district has added a full-time Tech Ed teacher to utilize the new equipment and revitalized space for the upcoming school year. With some of the savings from the referendum project, the district was able to add air conditioning in the big gym and remodel the kitchen area. The kitchen will now have steam tables for serving students, and updated storage and cabinets. The janitorial staff has been working hard to clean the entire building and ensure it is ready for the start of the school year.

In more exciting news, I am happy to share that the district will be participating in Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) which provides all students with free breakfast and lunch. This upcoming school year will be a trial run for this program as there is no such thing as a free lunch, it must be paid from somewhere. The CEP program provides some additional funding, but the district will offset the additional costs. The goal of running the trial year is to monitor the expenses and evaluate if the program can be maintained for the future. The district hopes that it will be sustainable, but wants to be upfront that it may not continue past this school year.

As I write this, the district is fully staffed with teachers for the upcoming school year. This seems to be harder and harder to do each year with a shortage of teachers nationwide. I am happy to say we have had quality applicants for our open positions. More information on our new hires can be found in this newsletter.

I want to thank the community for their continued support of the School District of Luck. The improvements made by the building referendum have been appreciated by the students and staff. I have heard many compliments from parents, students, and community members about how nice our district is. Along with the building referendum and allowing us to provide a learning environment our students can be proud of, the passage of the operational referendum last spring was more directly impactful to our students as it will allow the district to maintain its current level of expectations in all aspects. Dear Parents of Luck School District Students,
 

Welcome back to another school year! I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer break, and I trust that students are ready for another great year.

I want to first extend a warm welcome to our new students, families, and staff members to our school community. In addition, I want to welcome back returning students and families, and thank you for your continued support of our school, community, staff, and students.

The previous couple of years have brought a lot of changes to our building and to our routines, and those have been the main topics of my most recent back to school welcome letters. This year, I don’t have as many new things to report, but that doesn’t mean we aren't committed to embracing new challenges and striving for continuous improvement in every aspect of what we do.

The school district will continue to purchase back to school supplies, and we are happy to ease the transition from summer to back to school. I am also happy to report that the school district has enrolled in a program this year that will allow all students to eat lunch at no cost to families. We are here to serve the community’s families, and we are always searching for new ways to provide the best to our community.

As always, being a part of the Luck community fills me with pride, and it is exciting to be a part of the Luck School District. None of the things we do could happen without strong parent partnership and community support. It continues to get better and better to be a Cardinal.

It’s hard to believe how fast summer is going, and how close we are getting to the start of the 2024-2025 school year! Thank you all for such a wonderful 23-24 school year. It was so rewarding to watch our students grow and succeed with each passing day. With the new school year right around the corner, here are some highlights from the past year.

The 23-24 school year was filled with academic and social growth for our students. From PBIS celebrations and field trips to staff/student volleyball games and all the other activities, there was something for everyone to enjoy. We had a great year of academic growth with students challenging themselves to learn and grow each day. We anticipate even more growth this coming year, challenging our students to maximize their potential and celebrate their successes.

This summer our students enjoyed a fun-filled Summer School experience, participating in activities ranging from fishing and kayaking to baking, science experiments, athletics, and swimming lessons. Special outings to the Duluth Aquarium and the Science Museum in Eau Claire added memorable experiences for families.

We just finished up our Activities Registration Night for the 24-25 school year. A special thank you to Nic Been for speaking with our parents, and to the alumni panel that helped provide guidance to our student-athletes. We had some great success during the past year, highlighted by our girls 4x100 relay team winning the State Championship! The girls and boys golf teams both made it to sectionals. Our girls volleyball and boys basketball teams both made the regional final game in their respective sports, and the wrestling team won the Conference Championship. Other extracurricular activities saw much success as well including many awards and accomplishments in FCCLA, Speech, Drama, FFA, Solo and Ensemble, and more! We are looking forward to seeing our students continue to develop and to the successes that next year will bring!
